Rafflesia is a genus of parasitic flowering plants. It was discovered in the Indonesia rain forest by an Indonesian guide working for Dr. Joseph Arnold in 1818, and named after Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the leader of the expedition. Rafflesia is the world's largest flower weighing about 9kg and almost 1 meter wide. Seven out of fifteen species worldwide of Rafflesia can be found in Malaysia.
